How to Choose a Security Gate

Commercial and industrial operations should invest in security gates. This is because they offer a convenient access control solution and reduce the risk of merchandise, equipment and materials being stolen or vandalized. Here’s a quick guide to the different gates available to help you choose the right one for your needs.

1. Double swing gates

Double swing gates are the standard solution, opening either inward or outward, depending on application and available space. They’re relatively cost-effective, durable, easy to install and can be automated if required.

2. High-traffic cantilever gates

A cantilever gate is similar to a sliding one except it’s suspended on a series of mounting posts equipped with wheels. These allow the gate to open and close. Since the wheels and gate are never in contact with the ground, cantilever gates are typically faster and more durable than sliding gates. They’re ideal for high-traffic areas.

3. Overhead sliding gates

These highly specialized gates are ideal for large openings that would otherwise be difficult to close off. They’re often used for industrial or commercial sites that use or store valuable or dangerous materials and equipment and still need to let large transport vehicles in and out of the complex.

4. Swing barrier gates

Swing barrier gates are a common sight in parking lots. They prevent vehicles from going through but allow pedestrians to come and go as needed. They’re especially useful for regulating vehicle access to areas with heavy foot traffic and thus minimizing the risk of accidents.
